National Air and Space Museum hours and location The museum is located on Independence Avenue at 6th Street SW, and admission is always free. Regular hours are 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., but the museum stays open until 7:30 p.m. during its extended spring and summer hours.
Out of this World highlights particular moments from the space age that have inspired artists — the beginning of the space age in 1957, sending astronauts to the Moon and back in 1969, seeing the whole Earth from space in 1972, and creating a better picture of our home galaxy in 1992.
About. The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport is the companion facility to the museum in Washington, D.C. Hundreds of historically significant air- and spacecraft, along with thousands of small artifacts, are on display in an open, hangar-like setting.
The Air and Space museum’s centerpiece display is a priceless collection of some of the world’s most important flying machines. Most of these aircrafts’ names, their pilots’ names, and achievements will be instantly recognizable.
